Cada día envía comunicados, informes, reportes y cuanta información necesitan los periodistas para mantener informada a la gente sobre la forma de tomar ventaja del Seguro Social, así como de los últimos cambios sobre reglas y procedimientos. “Nuestra gente a veces no sabe que hay muchas formas de que el seguro social los ayude económicamente. Creen que es muy difícil solicitar esos fondos, por ello es que constantemente insisto en dar a la prensa materiales para que los informen. La comunicación es la clave de todo”, dijo a UN BUEN DOCTOR Magazine. De origen mexicano, Salazar ha mantenido una carrera extensiva con esta agencia en la cual ha desempeñado una variedad de posiciones. A pesar de que ella cubre todos los programas del Seguro Social, tiene un interés especial para asegurar que las personas sean informadas sobre los requisitos necesarios para los beneficios del Seguro Social, incluyendo la Ayuda Adicional para pagar los gastos asociados con el plan de Recetas Medicas de Medicare y para introducirlos a los servicios por internet del seguro social. “Tenemos gente que habla 15 idiomas para atender a todos”, dijo. “Ahora mismo hay cambios que hacen más fácil solicitar los beneficios, por lo que deben llamar o visitar una agencia a informarse. No saben que pueden contar con seguro de vida, ayuda para pagar la renta, la luz, el agua, sus medicinas, etc.”. “Yo estoy más de 10 años haciendo este trabajo y me siento bendecida. Me encanta ser útil a mi gente, no me canso porque sé que estoy contribuyendo a mejorar la calidad de vida de muchos y esa es una satisfacción personal. Siempre estuve envuelta en los servicios sociales porque los hispanos necesitan mucho apoyo, porque cuando ellos llegan a saber cómo funciona el sistema responden muy bien”, asegura. “Mi mensaje a la gente es que sea más activa y que no dejen para mañana lo que pueden hacer hoy. Deben aprovechar todo a lo que tienen derecho y yo me siento feliz de poder ayudar a que lo logren”, dice. “Es particularmente especial para mí hacer este trabajo, sobre todo cuando trato con los ancianos. Lo repito, no es trabajo, es una bendición”. Although she covers all of the programs with the Social Security Administration, her special interest consists of assuring that people are informed on the necessary requirements needed to access such benefits like that of Social Insurance including access to Additional Aid, which helps to pay for expenses associated with the Medical Prescription plan of Medicare. In addition, she’s pushing hard to introduce such services via the internet. “We have people that are bilingual and we can handle 15 different languages and the internet would make it easier to cover such a huge audience,” she said. “Right now there are significant changes in place that make it much easier to apply for benefits and that is why it’s important that the community reach out to the agency. One must keep in mind that this is not only for seniors, but also for young people so that they learn how to manage what they earn, so they can better prepare for their retirement and any situation the future may bring,” she states. “Providing this information is important and that is why I visit and present to various schools, community organizations and private companies. Most are misinformed. Many do not know that they have access to life insurance, housing assistance and utilities including medicine.” “I’ve been doing this work for more than 10 years and I feel blessed. It is fascinating to be useful to my people. I do not get tired because I know that I am contributing to improving the quality of life of many and that is a personal satisfaction. I am always involved in social services because Hispanics need much support, however, once they learn how the system works, they respond very well”, she added. “My message to the Hispanic community is that they should be more proactive and not procrastinate on the issues that can be solved today. They must take advantage of everything to which they have rights to and I am fortunate for being able to facilitate that to them,” she says. “It is particularly rewarding for me when helping the elderly.
